Santo Domingo.Ц The Caribbean is a truly hot destination for UK holidaymakers, with the Dominican Republic having seen a jump in tourist numbers this year.
Travelmole reports that the nation enjoyed an increase in arrivals from the UK of no less than 17.75 per cent between January and July.
This was 21,710 more than the same period last year, showing that the country is fast becoming a major destination for Brits looking for something a little exotic.
Travel expert Lonely Planet describes the Dominican Republic as a great place to party, relax or explore, saying: "The white-sand beaches, impressive mountain ranges veined with spectacular rivers and waterfalls, and saltwater lakes teeming with exotic wildlife are just part of the appeal."
As well as the obvious attractions of turquoise Caribbean seas, pristine beaches and exotic wildlife, the country has what is claimed to be the oldest city in the New World.
Santo Domingo is made up of charming cobbled streets and museums, which give an insight into the beginnings of American civilisation as we know it today.
Airlines that operate services to the country include Air France, Iberia and Air Europa.
